GREY for DAYS

On the banks 
Of the river
Lived a young 
Orphan maid
She had swore
To her mother
They’d rejoin
One Day
So she let the waves overtake her
She let them wash her away

There’s a ship in the water
It was downed by the rain
All the sea-lively creatures
Saw to seamen’s decay
But the hull holds a secret
That remains to this day

Skittish, elusive, it’s a fact
They hide their trail so well it makes them hard to track, but
Look for signs that I should know
For I have hurt at least 3 or so

It doesn’t mean they were never here
They just have a tendency to disappear
The door’s always open, I made it warm for you
And I’ve even drawn the curtains despite the beautiful view

So tell me I’m pretty, I’m all the things you like
Charming and witty and I’ll smile to be polite, but
Gentlemen, you know it’s all for show
I need in me an animal
